I'm in training. Daily drills and workout sessions will, hopefully, get me into shape. Not physical shape. No, not those kinds of workout sessions. (You should know better!) Physical improvement may be in my future, but not at the moment. I'm training toward my life's purpose, or at least toward what I THINK is my life's purpose. Part of it anyway. (After almost a half century and I'm still trying to find my purpose on this planet.) My goal is to become not only a better but more effective writer. This website and blog are part of my training. Have you ever opened all your dresser drawers and your closet doors and then invited all your friends and neighbors and thousands of strangers in to rummage through your delicate stuff? What's that you say? Sounds crazy? Yes, you are correct. It's completely crazy, but that, in essence, is exactly what an effective writer does. An effective writer opens up her heart, soul, and mind and shares them with the world in hopes of changing that world for the better. Writing effectively takes courage. Lots of it. "Hello, my name is Lavonda and I am NOT courageous!" Because I am a fearful coward, and because I don't want to stay a fearful coward, I'm taking some positive steps toward putting away the old to make room for the new. Step one--choosing to change. Step two--train. | My first assignment was to publically declare myself a writer. Did you see that over there in the sidebar? I did it! My knees were knocking and my stomach churned, but I did it. (Now I think I may faint.) I hope someone out there reading this knows what it's like to declare yourself something that you know to be true only by faith. And so then, by that public declaration, are compelled to live up to your claim! (I think I just got a fresh understanding of baptism.) By declaring myself to be a writer, you have my permission, even my request, to hold me accountable to do that very thing. Write. From time to time I will post assignments here on my blog. I will always welcome comments and feedback from you. I want to grow and learn and perfect my craft, but more than that, I want to serve you, my readers. I want to thank you in advance for stopping by and taking the time to read. I hope and pray that you will always be blessed by something you see here. I know I am going to need you in various ways throughout my training. The more you interact with me through this site, the more effective I can become. Are you ready to help me change in our world, one post at a time? I have no idea how this website and blog will grow and change, but I'm looking forward to finding out. Thanks for your input and help! |

I so love to read what you write. This made me a little uneasy as I am going through so many changes in my life right now also. You are awesome and I so look forward to what you write next. Was just thinking as I read it that you should write a book. Love you my friend.

Aww thanks! I haven't been faithful to write here. When I went to work full time my plans to put my whole self into writing got flushed down the drain. Now I'm a rat on a wheel, losing myself in the monotony of the day to day, doing what everyone else wants me to do. Slowly dying inside all the while.
